Reports just reaching us indicates that the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello was violently attacked by residents shortly after the Jumat prayer today in Lokoja, the state capital.
Details of the incident are still sketchy but some eyewitnesses said it happened at the Lokoja Central Mosque in the old market area.
A source also disclosed that the discontented people carried few placards as they chanted anti-government slogans stoning the governor with rotten fruits and vegetables.
The source said:
The situation in this state is even worse than what the residents are doing. The situation is pathetic.
One government’s official in the state noted that it was the second time in two weeks Governor Bello would be so attacked as people are aggrieved about the depreciating living conditions in the state.
He recently attended an event in Ankpa, and residents there defied heavy security to stone him. We don’tunderstand what’s going on.
The police was later able to disperse the crowd with teargas.
