Lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stormed out in protest during plenary on Wednesday, November 30.
The opposition senators staged the walk out after it was announced that of Sen. Yale Omogunwa of Ondo South had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Trouble started when Senate President Bukola Saraki read a letter from Sen. Omogunwa informing his colleagues in the upper house of legislature of his move from PDP to APC.
As the APC senators received Omogunwa in joy, Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio raised a point of order to correct what he called insinuations in the letter that PDP is divided.
His submission was followed by shouts from senators on both sides.
APC senator Dino Melaye tried to raise a point of order but the senate president ruled him out of order, and so the heavy argument continued until PDP senators stood up and walked out of the chambers.
However, the house returned to their session with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Labour Party assuming the position of the Minority Leader.
