The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has a new chairman and his name is Mahmud Yakubu. He was appointed by the president and was officially approved during the council of state meeting which held at the state house yesterday 21st October. Yakubu takes over from Amina Zakari who has been the acting INEC Chairman since Attahiru Jega left office in June. She is now the INEC commissioner for the North-East zone.
Yakubu who hails from Bauchi state was part of the team at last year’s national Conference and was the former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
He is a professor of political history and international studies as well as an expert in guerrilla warfare, terrorism and counter-terrorism.

Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo -North-east
Dr Mohammed Mustafa -South-south
Mr Soyebi Adedeji Solomon -South-west.
