Angry Students of Olabisi Onabanjo university, Ogun state has embarked on a riot protesting a fee hike in the tertiary institution.
They took over the streets, blocking access to the presidential Boulevard, the road that leads to where the governor’s office is located.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun had earlier reduced the school fees after students had earlier protested the initial fee hike, but the students say it is not enough, adding that the reduced fee is still too much for them to afford.
In an attempt to curtail the protest, members of the Nigerian police force shot at the students and also fired tear gas at them. The act by the police infuriated the students who had planned for the demonstration to be peaceful, resulting their becoming violent and destroying properties worth millions in Abeokuta, the state capital.
